Bobby Bowen Obituary

Bobby Mayton Bowen, 84, of Clarkesville, Georgia passed away peacefully at his home on March 17, 2018.

Born in Lyons, Georgia, he was the son of the late Tommie Lewis and Reba Bowen. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his brother, Tommie Bowen, Jr.

He grew up in Mountain City, GA and graduated from Rabun County High School. He earned his BA from Wofford College and a MA from Western Carolina University and an Ed.S from University of Georgia.

Bobby married Sonja Dickerson and they had one son, Gregory Brett Bowen.

He was a veteran of the US Army. In the early 60’s he was a teacher and football coach at North Habersham High School. He joined the U.S. Office of Education in the late 60’s and retired as the Training Officer for the Federal Emergency Management Agency Region 4 in Atlanta, Georgia.

Bobby was of the Methodist faith. He enjoyed traveling, watching TV, football, history, reading and visiting with family and friends.

A celebration of life service will be held at Hillside Memorial Chapel, 5495 State Highway 197 South, Clarkesville, GA 30523 on Saturday April 21, 2018. Visitation beginning at 3:00 PM and the service at 4:00 PM. 

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the charity of your choice.
