Carolyn Diehl Tomlin Newlon, 73, took her Heavenly flight to be with the Lord, September 15,2017.

Carolyn was born January 25, 1944 in Sanford, FL to Ralph and Una Diehl. She was a graduate of Piedmont College and North Georgia College. She was a dedicated school teacher of 35 years in Habersham County, spending most of that time teaching at Demorest Elementary School. She dearly loved gardening and traveling.

Carolyn was preceeded in death by her parents, her grandson and her pride and joy, Clayton Martin, her husband of 20 years, Paul Newlon and her beloved sister Dorothy Carlson.

Those left to cherish her memory include her daughter/caregiver and son-in-law Juli and Johnny Irvin, Mount Airy, GA, a sister and brother-in-law Barbara and Gary Stair, Deltona, FL Step Daughters Paula LaCavera, Demorest, GA and Cristine (Christopher) Smiga, Buford, GA, granddaughters Camden (Marshall) Randalls, Breann Smiga and grandsons William and Ethan Smiga and two great-grandchildren. She is also survived by several nieces, nephews and dear friends.

Her daughter and son-in-law, Johnny and Juli Irvin, would like to give a special thank you to the staff at Pruitt Hospice, especially her nurse, Beth Turner and her CNA Sandy Martin for their love and care during her illness.  They would also like to thank a very special caregiver, Jayne Demore, for her undying love, commitment, availability and understanding during this time.  

A memorial service will be held Saturday, September 23, 2017 at 11 AM at the Hillside Memorial Chapel, Clarkesville, GA with Rev. Kenneth Barrett officiating.
