Rita Anne Myers

Rita Myers, age 82, of Clarkesville passed away Friday, October 6, 2017.

Rita was born in Birmingham, Alabama to the late Selby Robert Myers and Glenna Wade Myers Sawyer.  In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her step-father, Carl Sawyer. 

Rita had a long career as a secretary with the US government and also with the Centers for Disease Control.  She was creative, artistic, and was well known among her family and friends for her green thumb.  Rita was accomplished as an artist, singer, and in her career- but her greatest accomplishment was her children.  She performed with the Piedmont College Chorale for their winter and spring concerts for many years.  Rita was a member of Hollywood Baptist Church.

She is survived by her three children, Eric Eugen Heckl (Brenda) of Jacksonville Beach, Florida, BGen Karsten Selby Heckl USMC (Michelle), currently stationed in Cascais, Portugal, and Karin Glenna Heckl, Decatur; four grandchildren, Shelby Heckl, Regan Heckl, Austin Heckl, and Adam Heckl. 

Funeral services will be 2:00 P.M. Thursday at Hollywood Baptist Church.  Reverend Don Samples and Reverend Bill Evans will officiate.  Interment will follow in the church cemetery.  The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church.
