Verna Mae (Kilby) Smith

Funeral services for Verna Mae Kilby Smith, age 86 of Clarkesville will be held at 11:00 AM, Wednesday, August, 8, 2018 at Bethlehem Baptist Church.  Dr. Craig Ward, Rev. Tommy Stowe, Bishop Rayburne Wilson, and Rev. Chip Cranford will officiate with interment to follow the service in the church cemetery.

Mrs. Smith passed away August 5, 2018 following an extended illness.

Born on January 25, 1932 in the Timpson Creek Community of Rabun County, Mrs. Smith was the daughter of the late Otto Kilby and Marietta Head Kilby Holcomb.  Mrs. Smith was retired from Habersham Board of Education where she worked in the Cafeteria at North Habersham Middle School.  She was a member of Bethlehem Baptist Church and she enjoyed cooking and spending time with her family.  Mrs. Smith suffered from Alzheimers Disease for the last seven years.  In addition to her parents, Mrs. Smith is preceded in death by her husband of 66 years Wayne Smith, and sisters Ailene Wilson and Mary Ellen Williams.

Survivors include daughter and son in law Sharon S. and Ricky Taylor of Mt. Airy, son and daughter in law Thomas and Kathryn Smith of Clarkesville, grandsons Erik Smith, Shane Smith, Payton Taylor (Krista), and Patrick Taylor (fiancé Taylor Brown), brother and sister in law Charles “Carlos” and Sherrie Kilby of Lula, several nieces and nephews, as well as caregivers Tonya Eller and Joan Hill.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Tuesday, August 7, 2018 from 2-4 PM and from 6-8 PM.
