Willard “Jack” Dover Obituary

Willard “Jack” Dover, age 91 of the Hollywood Community, Clarkesville, passed away Wednesday, September 30, 2020.

Born in Demorest, Georgia on July 28, 1929, Mr. Dover was the son of the late William T. and Maria I. Dover.  Mr. Dover was a disabled United States Army Veteran, having been a tank commander in the Korean War.  While in service Mr. Dover also played baseball and basketball for the Army, sports that later served him well while coaching his sons and many friends for Habersham County Recreation Department.  Mr. Dover had a “green thumb” and was an avid outdoorsman.  He loved hunting, fishing, camping and gardening. He was a lifetime member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Disabled American Veterans and Ebenezer United Methodist Church.  Mr. Dover loved his wife, loved his children, loved his grandchildren and was an extremely generous gentleman. Simply put, Jack Dover was a stragglers best friend.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Dover is preceded in death by siblings Thomas Dover, Paulus Dover, Claude “Lefty” Dover, James Dover, Ernest Dover, Ethel Worley, Isa Roberts, Laura Freeman, Lucille Caudell and Lily Dover, grandson Kyle Wood and granddaughter Kendra Dover.

Survivors include wife Mary Dover of the home, daughter and son in law Debbie and David Wood of Clarkesville, son Eddie Dover of Clarkesville, sons and daughters in law Steve “Booter” and Nicole Dover of Clarkesville and Andrew “Bubba” and Alisha Dover of Clarkesville, 6 grandchildren, 2 great grandchildren, as well as numerous nephews, nieces, cousins and extended family.

Funeral services will be held at 3:00 PM, Sunday, October 4, 2020 at Hillside Memorial Chapel with Rev. Kendall Mann, Rev. Brad Dover and Mr. Oaky Dover officiating.  Interment will follow the service at Ebenezer United Methodist Church Cemetery with Military Honors provided by Grant-Reeves VFW Post #7720, American Legion Post 84, Northeast Georgia Mountains Disabled American Veterans Chapter 15.  The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Saturday, October 3, 2020 from 5-8 PM.
