Betty Sutton Obituary

Betty Ann Adair Sutton, age 89 of the Batesville Community, went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, April 15, 2021.

Born in Toccoa, Georgia on July 1, 1931, Mrs. Sutton was the daughter of the late Claude and Katherine “Sobrina” Williams Adair.  After graduating from Clarkesville High School, Mrs. Sutton played professional basketball for the Atlanta Tomboys and she later coached women’s basketball for the Habersham County Recreation Department.  She loved basketball and enjoyed watching it and going to games up until recent years. Mrs. Sutton worked in payroll and accounting at Orbit Manufacturing.  She and her late husband Andrew spent a lifetime farming, helping others and providing for their family.  Mrs. Sutton loved gardening and canning and sharing what she grew with friends and neighbors.  She was also a beekeeper and made cane syrup.   Mrs. Sutton was a longtime and faithful member of Providence Baptist Church where she was very involved in her church community and served on the bereavement committee.  In addition to her parents, Mrs. Sutton is preceded in death by husband Andrew Sutton, son Thomas William Sutton, daughter Linda Janelle Sutton, brothers Hoyt Adair, William Adair, Dewey Adair, Ray Adair, sister Sadie Adair Lewis and infant twin brother Henry Joe Adair. 

Survivors include sons Larry Sutton (Brenda), Dave Sutton, Sam Sutton (Tina), and Tony Sutton and daughter Abby Sutton Jackson (John) all of the Batesville Community, sister Martha Adair Daley of Hollywood, grandchildren Tammy Pottinger, Shea McCurry, Joel Sutton, Emily Hall, Sandy Sutton Bradford, Dewey Sutton, Zeke Sutton, Andy Sutton and Selena Sutton, great grandchildren Salem Sutton, Macy Sutton, Lily Sutton, Waylon Sutton, Elise Sutton Bradford, Alexandra Sutton, Alice Sutton, Sofia McCurry, Cheyenne McCurry, Brody Hall, Brantley Hall and Cole Sutton as well as numerous nieces, nephews, extended family and many friends.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM, Saturday, April 17, 2021 at Providence Baptist Church with Dr. Don Drawdy officiating.  Interment will follow the service in Providence Baptist Church Cemetery.  The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Friday, April 18, 2021 from 4-7 PM.
