Billy L. Canup, age 81, of Clarkesville, passed away Saturday, June 27, 2026 under the care of Hospice of Northeast Georgia Medical Center.
"Bill" was born in Habersham County to the late Vance Irving Canup and Lois Eller Canup. In addition to his parents, Bill was preceded in death by his daughter, Gina Oleta Canup. He was a faithful member of Unity Baptist Church.
With a strong entrepreneurial spirit, Bill ran Three Way Trading Post in Clarkesville for 43 years, where he sold refurbished appliances to countless families in the area. However, no matter where he stood business wise, Bill always found a way to provide for his family.
When he wasn’t working, Bill found solace in a quiet deer stand and joy in restoring antique cars.
Bill had a fierce love for his family. He was doted on by his loving wife and he took great pride in his children and grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Oleta Canup; two children, Lisa Oleta Shurtleff (spouse, Patrick) and Billy Hank Canup (spouse, Deeann); seven grandchildren, ten great grandchildren, one great-great grandchild; three sisters, and three brothers.
The family will receive friends from 2-4:00 P.M. Monday, June 29 at Hillside Memorial Chapel with a graveside service to follow at 4:00 P.M. in Hillside Gardens. Reverend Jay Burge will officiate.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
