Donald Lane Ford

Donald Lane Ford, age 72 of Mt. Airy, passed away August 24, 2023.

Born in Royston on July 5, 1951, Don was the son of the late Henry and Betty Cheek Ford.  He graduated from Hart County High School and enlisted in the United States Marine Corps in 1969 and was an infantryman.  He later began a 40 plus year in law enforcement in Hart County and retired as the Habersham Board of Education Police Chief.  Don was a true servant and was passionate about serving the community in which he lived.  He was also an outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting and fishing as well as hiking and repelling, a skill he would also use while serving on the High Angle Rescue Team.  Don attended Clarkesville Church of God.  In addition to his parents, Don is preceded in death by son Kevin Webb.

Survivors include his wife Mary Boyter Ford of Mt. Airy, sons Tracy Ford (Kacy) of Danielsville, Terry Ford of Cannon and Shane Posey (Malissa) of Mt. Airy, daughters Satin Posey (Jarrad Collier) of Homer and Tabitha Jamison (Glen) of Toccoa, grandchildren Chandler Wayne Ford, Caleb Ford, Kaylee Ford, Christopher Posey, Taylor Posey (Chelsea), Ashley Posey, Charles Harrison, Alexis Patton, Cooper Jamison, Chloe Jamison and Kinsley Jamison, and eight great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at Hillside Memorial Chapel at 12:00 noon, Wednesday, August 30, 2023 with Rev. Tully Griggs and Rev. Rick Darby, officiating.  Interment will follow the service with military and law enforcement honors in the Hillside Gardens Cemetery.  The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Monday, August 28th and Tuesday, August 29th, from 5-8 PM.
