James (Jim) was born in Fairfield, AL June 17, 1937 to James and Ruth Pickens Burgin. He died Jan 1. 2025. He graduated from Anderson College in Anderson, Indiana in 1959. He married Eleanor May Ours and went on to earn his Masters Of Divinity from Anderson School of Theology, becoming a Church of God pastor. He took his clinical pastorate education in Kansas City, Kansas and his daughter Ann was born in 1964. In 1969 he entered the field of addiction as a counselor in Atlanta, GA where he discovered his love of public speaking to groups in the Addiction field.
In 1979 he moved to Charleston, SC and became the program manager of an inpatient addiction facility on Johns Island, Fenwick Hall. In 1985 he moved to Savannah, GA to start an outpatient addiction treatment center, with two partners, called Fenwick Hall. In 1990 he moved to Lawrenceville, GA and in 1993 he married Patricia Bull Colbert. After 3 years in the Atlanta area they moved to Clarkesville ,GA to work for North Georgia Community Services.
After a few years he travelled the US training others in the field. Then in 2009 he helped Pat open her own bakery, Bellflower Mountain Bakery. He managed the business administration and even helped with deliveries and helped in the bakery.
He is survived by his wife, Pat, daughter Ann and son- in- law, Steve Rogers. He will be remembered for his love of reading, and the love and joy he gave to his family.
