Robert "Bob" Smith McAbee

Robert “Bob” Smith McAbee, age 77 of Dahlonega passed away Sunday, December 15, 2024.

Bob was born in Spartanburg, South Carolina on June 21, 1947 to the late Ralph S. and Frances Hines McAbee.  He earned a BS from Jacksonville State University and did postgraduate work at Georgia Tech and Georgia State.  Bob was a software engineer for over 35 years, having worked for Idex, Siemens, Scientific Games, and Digital Equipment Corp. He worked on team projects and as a consultant. Bob had a deep love for music that started at an early age. He was especially talented on stringed instruments and taught guitar. He performed solo and with several bands and ensembles throughout his lifetime.    He enjoyed nature and hiking over the North Georgia mountain trails. He loved his family, friends, good food, and a good music jam session.

Survivors include his wife Margie Gardner McAbee of Dahlonega, son Simon Gardner McAbee of Dahlonega, brother and sister in law Kenneth Blair McAbee and Sonja of Jacksonville, Alabama, sister and brother in law Brenda McAbee Lindblom and Dick of Jacksonville, Alabama, as well as several nieces, nephews and extended family.

A private celebration of life will be held at a later date.

Arrangements are in the care and professional direction of Hillside Memorial Chapel and Gardens, Clarkesville.
