Virginia Lee Tench Thompson

Virginia Lee Tench Thompson, age 80 of Cornelia, Georgia went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, February 2, 2021 following an extended illness.

Born in Gainesville, Georgia on January 25, 1941, she was a daughter of the late J.C. & Fannie Elrod Tench. Virginia worked with Habersham Home for numerous years and was also a private caregiver for many families in this area. She enjoyed taking care of her family and those around her. In her spare time, Virginia enjoyed camping and spending precious time with her children as well as her grandchildren. She was a member of New Hope Baptist Church.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, Billy Joe Thompson, Sr.

Survivors include her daughter & son-in-law, Lisa Thompson Free & Michael Free of Alto, GA; son & daughter-in-law, Billy Joe “Joey” Thompson, Jr. & Amy Thompson of Cornelia, GA; grandchildren, Amber & Trey Gibby of Cornelia, GA; Joshua Free & Joanne Renshaw of Maysville, GA; Kindal Thompson & Josie Thompson both of Cornelia, GA; great-grandchildren, Hayden & Saylor Gibby of Cornelia, GA; Conner Free of Maysville, GA; sister & brother-in-law, Diane & Jerry Chapman of Clarkesville, GA; brother & sister-in-law, Johnny & Cheryl Tench of Dahlonega, GA; nieces, nephews, other relatives, & friends.

In consideration of public health & safety, it is requested that all those in attendance for both visitation & the funeral service observe all guidelines for social distancing.

Funeral services are scheduled for 1:00 p.m. Friday, February 05, 2021 with Mr. Kasey McEntire officiating. Interment will follow in the New Hope Baptist Church Cemetery.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Thursday.
