Wayne Smith

Mr. Wayne Smith, age 91, a lifelong resident of Clarkesville passed away Thursday, November 6, 2014 after an extended period of declining health.

Funeral services will be held on Sunday, November 9, 2014 at 3:00 PM from the Bethlehem Baptist Church.  Interment will follow the service in the church cemetery.

Born on November 15, 1922, Mr. Smith was the son of the late John Isaac and May Flowers Woodward Smith.  He was a United States Army veteran having served in WWII where he was a Combat Engineer.  Mr. Smith was retired from Clarkesville Mill and the Toccoa Housing Authority.  He was a lifelong and the eldest male member of Bethlehem Baptist Church in Clarkesville.  In addition to his parents Mr. Smith is preceded in death by siblings Isaac Newton Smith, Nell James, John Jackson Smith, Frank Lloyd Smith, and Ralph Smith.

Survivors include his wife of 66 years Verna Mae Kilby Smith of Clarkesville, son and daughter in law Thomas and Kathryn Smith of Clarkesville, daughter and son in law Sharon S. and Ricky Taylor of Mt. Airy, sisters Ruth Smith Sosebee of Demorest and  Susie Nell Smith Raper of Marietta, as well as grandsons Erik Smith, Shane Smith, Payton Taylor, and Patrick Taylor.  

The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Saturday, November 8, 2014 from 2-4 PM and from 6-8 PM.
