Willie G. Thigpen, Jr.

Willie Grey Thigpen, Jr., 87, of Clarkesville, Ga., passed away on November 18, 2017. 

Born on May 18, 1930, in Brunswick, Ga., to the late W.G. Thigpen, Sr. and Alice Harrison Thigpen, Mr. Thigpen was a 1948 graduate of Glynn Academy. He joined the United States Air Force after graduation and served for 20 years. After retirement, Mr. Thigpen obtained a law degree from John Marshall University and resided in Brunswick, where he owned and operated Palmetto Florist, Thig’s Pig BBQ, and worked in law and real estate. Mr. Thigpen and his wife later retired to the North Georgia Mountains, where he was a member of Clarkesville Baptist Church. In addition to his parents, Mr. Thigpen was preceded in death by his wife of 66 years, Dorothy Gibbs Thigpen. 

Survivors include his children Pat Ransom (Bob), James Thigpen, Mary Thigpen, Billy Thigpen (Frances), and Pam Moody (Gerald); 11 grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great grandson. 

Mr. Thigpen was honored to have been selected to participate in Coastal Georgia’s 2017 Honor Flight to Washington, D.C. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to www.coastalgeorgiahonorflight.org.

A memorial service will be held in Brunswick on December 9th at 10 a.m. at Blythe Island Baptist Church. 18, 2017
